Was There More Than One Person Involved In The Murder Of A Family Of Five In Odisha?
Bhubaneswar: While authorities assume additional persons were involved in the heinous murder of five members of a family, the accused's wife, Siba Sahu, dismissed this hypothesis on Wednesday, calling it a "revenge killing."
"Altercation erupted after my husband requested keys from his eldest brother's family. He retaliated when they thrashed him. "They have been tormenting us for the previous 10-12 years," Siba's wife stated, closely repeating what her husband had said in a video message before surrendering on Tuesday at Balichandrapur police station.
Around 3 a.m., a quintuple murder occurred in Kusupur village, Mahanga police limits, Cuttack district.
His wife also said that when he tried to stop him, he locked her in a room. "Apart from my husband, no one else was involved." "He then unlocked the door and threatened to kill me as well if I didn't leave right away," she added, adding that she was not there throughout the bloodbath.
Following a long-drawn fight over a parcel of property, Siba and his wife had been living separately in a leased house in Nanpur, Balichandrapur police limits, around five kilometres from Kusupur.
After IIC of Mahanga police station Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, Salepur SDPO Bimal Barik, and a scientific team broke open the door in the presence of the local executive magistrate, Alekh Sahu (46), his Rashmi Rekha (41), their daughter Smruti Sandhya (19), and sons Smruti Sai (18) and Smruti Saurav (16) were discovered in a pool of blood.
More people may have been involved, according to locals. "How did he manage to hack five people without being detected?" "We didn't hear anyone scream," a resident stated.
However, Alekh's in-laws found it impossible to believe that only one individual was responsible for the murder. "There were disagreements over a rape case in addition to the land." The probe should be turned over to the CBI in order for the truth to be revealed," they urged.
According to the preliminary investigation, IG of Police (Central Range) Narasingha Bhol told media on Tuesday that all five members of the family died while sleeping owing to profuse bleeding. The perpetrator allegedly severed the wrist veins of the victims, and it is thought that he drugged their food. "While postmortem findings are awaited, the accused will be rigorously probed to see whether anyone else was involved," Bhol stated.
According to police sources, Siba chopped the bodies of Alekh and Rashmi with a katuri (sharp instrument), which was seized.
