Bhubaneswar: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Odisha announced on Thursday that the syllabus for +2 students in the state will be shortened by 30% for the second year in a row.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the CHSE Academic Committee convened here on Thursday.

“Despite the fact that physical style of instruction has recently started in colleges due to the Covid issue, the total number of teaching days has decreased. As a result, CHSE vice-chairman Tushar Kanti Tripathy said, "it has been agreed to continue with the 30% reduced syllabus this year as well."

Similarly, the Academic Committee deliberated extensively to guarantee that students are evaluated on a constant basis.

Aside from the curriculum reduction, a proposal was made to establish a terminal examination (in two terms) for students in Class XI and XII.

Every year, Class XI and XII pupils will have three quarter-end exams and one yearly test, according to the idea.

In the first year, there will be three quarter-end examinations (conducted by the different colleges) and one yearly examination.

Along with the annual exam, three quarter-end exams will be held (to be conducted by CHSE). Each terminal examination will be worth 30 points, with 20 points for theory and 10 points for practicals.

“Students' grades will be determined by their performance on the final test, if one is held. The plan would be presented to the government of Odisha for approval. Following the requisite clearances, the council will release a thorough announcement in succeeding phases,” said Tripathy.

“In the following days, we hope to see an improvement in the COVID-19 situation. If the CHSE is unable to conduct yearly +2 exams, the alternative evaluation approach will be useful for assessment and dissemination of the results, according to Tripathy.
