Waterborne diseases may spread after floods: Odisha Public Health Director
Bhubaneswar: The state administration of Odisha has prepared for a potential epidemic of water-borne infections once the water level recedes, with 12 of the state's 30 districts experiencing flooding as a result of consecutive low pressure and deep depression.
"The ingestion of water contaminated by a flood may spread water-borne diseases like cholera, jaundice, and typhoid. As a result, it has been ordered that all wells and tubewells be cleaned, according to Niranjan Mishra, director of public health.
He recommended the populace to drink water that had been either boiled or treated with a halogen pill. He advised, "Always drink pure water, and wash your hands frequently with soap."
The administration also intends to send medical teams to flood-affected areas in order to encourage a large-scale adoption of preventive measures by the populace. "In flood-affected areas, the Health department has keeping a close eye out for any potential water-borne illnesses. The department's rapid reaction teams have been placed at the district level to provide care for the populace. They may transport patients to hospitals if necessary, according to Mishra.
It is important to note that five lakh people have been affected by this disaster, which has buried 470 villages, and that over 2.2 lakh people have been marooned.
