Crocodile season is back! Bhitarkanika National Park all set to open gates from August 1
Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha's Kendrapara district is reopening on August 1 after being closed for three months. The closure was to allow for the breeding and nesting of estuarine crocodiles. During the closure, a 600-meter long, 15-foot high canopy bridge was constructed from wood, featuring a selfie point for visitors. This year, 114 crocodile nests were identified, slightly down from last year's count of 122. The park was also closed for nine days in January for the annual crocodile and migratory bird census, which recorded 1,811 crocodiles, an increase from last year's count of 1,793.
