Odisha girl bags silver medal at the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships

Bhubaneswar: Sabita Toppo, a 17-year-old athlete from Odisha, won a silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles on Friday at the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Kuwait. She finished the event in 14.17 seconds, earning the medal.

The occasion started on October 13 and will end on October 16.

Toppo has been training at the Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Center in Odisha. At the National Youth (U-18) Athletics Meet held in Bhopal in September, she took first position in the 100-meter hurdles.

The 17-year-old hurdler has received congratulations from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for her accomplishment. "Congratulations to Sabita Toppo of Odisha, who won the silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles event at the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Kuwait with a time of 14.17 seconds. May she keep bringing honour to the State and the Country. Best of luck to her in her future endeavours," he tweeted.

Toppo has also received congratulations from the Odisha Department of Sports and Youth Services for winning the silver medal. "Congratulations to hurdler from Odisha, Sabita Toppo, a member of the Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics HPC, on winning a medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Kuwait with a time of 14.17 seconds. We are pleased with you. ", the department tweeted.

The Indian Youth Athletics team (U-18) is represented by a 35-person squad at the competition in Kuwait. The competition is in its fourth year.

It is important to note that Kuldeep Kumar won India's first medal at the 2022 Games, a bronze in the boys' pole vault. He cleared 4.80 metres, which was a personal best.

Akash Yadav, who competed in the boys' shot put, earned India's first gold medal with a throw of 19.37 metres.
