Dhamnagar by-poll: BJD, Congress release star campaigners lists

Bhubaneswar: The BJD, BJP, and Congress, the state's three largest political parties, have each produced a list of their top campaigners for the impending byelection for the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency.

Three Union Ministers—Dharmendra Pradhan, Ashwini Vaishanaw, and Bisweswar Tudu—are on the 40-star campaigner list of the BJP, which is hoping to keep the seat, while a large contingent of BJD officials, including actors Arindam Ray and Akash Dasnayak, will canvass the district to garner votes. The names of School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash and Kendrapada MP Anubhav Mohanty were found to be missing from the list, despite the fact that BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would lead the 40-member star campaigners.

A Chella Kumar, Rudra Raju, Sarat Pattanayak, Suresh Routray, and Tara Bahinipati are among the 30 top campaigners for the Congress. They are responsible for Odisha. Md. Moquim, a senior MLA, was left off the list.

The Dhamnagar by-election has grown more fascinating as a result of the emergence of dissatisfied BJD leader and former MLA Rajendra Das, since it is now expected to be a four-horse contest with Suryavanshi Suraj of the BJP and Baba Harekrushna Sethi of the Congress. Playing the sympathy wave in favour of the Suryavanshi Suraj Sthitaprajna, son of Bishnu Sethi, whose passing required the by-election, the BJD has fielded Abanti Das, a protege of Das, from the constituency.

Voting will take place on November 3; the results will be announced and the votes counted on November 6.

2019's Dhamnagar election saw Bishnu Sethi triumph by a margin of 4,625 votes. He received 80,111 votes, while Das of the BJD received 75,486. The seat was won by Manmohan Samal of the BJP in the elections of 2004, but Das was chosen from Dhamnagar in 2009, and Muktikanta Mondal of the BJD in 2014.
