Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha MLA Chiranjib Biswal met senior party leaders Jayadev Jena and Sarat Rout in Bhubaneswar on Monday, a fortnight after being suspended from the Congress for alleged anti-party activities.

The meeting allegedly took place at Jena's home, a former PCC president. Sarat Rout, secretary of the AICC, was also present. Biswal is said to have spoken with the two senior leaders about his suspension.

According to sources, Rout recently met with party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Tariq Anwar, a member of the party's disciplinary committee. The AICC secretary is said to have urged the party's high command to reconsider the suspension of Biswal and Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammad Moquim in the interest of the party in the state ahead of next year's elections.

Jena stated that the Congress is fighting both the BJP and the BJD, and that because these two parties are working together, the Congress is the only viable alternative before the people. "We're preparing for the next elections," he explained.

According to the former PCC chief, the suspension of Biswal and Moquim was discussed with top leaders, and the party high command may reconsider the decision.

He noted that similar actions were taken against senior party leaders in the past, but that the suspension orders were later revoked. He stated that it is now critical for the party to remain united ahead of the Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections.

Routine suggestions have been made to the central leaders regarding the steps that must be taken to strengthen the organization by resolving all issues before the party can go to the polls.
