BJD announces names of Rajya Sabha candidates

Bhubaneswar: On the eve of the third year of his fifth term in office, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared four candidates for the empty Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha.

They are Sulata Deo, Manas Ranjan Mangaraj, Sasmit Patra, Niranjan Bishi. 

Notably, Rajya Sabha members Prasanna Acharya, N Bhaskar Rao, and Sasmit Patra's terms will expire on July 1, while Subhas Singh's departure as Mayor of Cuttack has created a vacancy.

While voting for three Rajya Sabha seats will take place on June 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the ballots will be counted starting at 5 p.m. On June 13, a bypoll for one Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On the same day, at 5 p.m., the votes will be counted.

With 112 members in the Assembly, the BJD has a good chance of winning all four seats.

May 29 is the birthday of his all-powerful private secretary and 5T secretary V K Pandian, as well as the third anniversary of his fifth term in office. Naveen made the announcement a day before he was to fly to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
