Mayor Sulochana Das stated on Wednesday that the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is willing to demolish illegally-constructed apartments in its jurisdiction if the state government provides compensation for it. However, she mentioned that BMC lacks sufficient funds for compensation and would require government allocation for this purpose. The mayor emphasized that illegal construction, including encroachment on drains and government land, as well as violation of regulations, should not be allowed. Her statements were made in response to Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra's report to the Assembly, which revealed 719 cases of illegal apartment construction in the state, with 689 cases falling within BMC and BDA jurisdiction.
