Seven individuals, referred to as ‘supari killers,’ were arrested for plotting to eliminate a groom on his wedding day in Odisha.

Police in Odisha’s Bolangir district apprehended at least seven individuals following a thwarted attempt at a contract killing during a wedding procession on Sunday. The incident took place in Bawajuri village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Deogaon police.

According to initial reports, the groom, Rajkumar Pradhan from Gaibahal village, had traveled to Bawajuri village as part of a 'baraat' procession for his marriage to a local girl. During the festivities, a group of approximately ten individuals, believed to be intoxicated, allegedly launched an armed attack on the groom. However, vigilant villagers intervened, overpowering seven of the assailants and handing them over to the authorities.

Origins of the Suspects
The individuals arrested are reportedly from nearby villages. Law enforcement officials seized several dangerous weapons from the accused, including a locally manufactured firearm.

Ongoing Investigation
An investigation is currently underway to determine who orchestrated the attack and the motive behind it. Sources indicate that the detained individuals were allegedly sent by a man named Sushant Biswal, who has since gone missing after the incident, with his mobile phone also switched off. The exact reason for sending the contract killers to target the groom remains unclear.

The groom’s brother stated, “We had come to the village for my brother's wedding. We have no information about why these individuals were sent to kill my brother, as he does not have any enmity with anyone. The assailants were armed with guns and other weapons.”
