Odia girls turn saviours for tourists at Rohtang pass

Rayagada: It was the morning of June 17th. From Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh, the view of the Himalayas was stunning. When it began to rain, a party of more than 150 tourists was enjoying the view. The snow beneath their feet began to melt, and large chunks of snow began to slide toward them.

The tourists, terrified, began hurriedly climbing down to a safer location. Two families from Odisha were among the visitors. Akanshya Sahu, a Rayagada inhabitant, and her cousin Ayushi Sahu, a Paralakhemundi resident, along with their families.

Akanshya, Ayushi, and their family members were able to safely descend. They soon realised, however, that four tourists from Rajasthan — two ladies and two children — were still trapped in the snow, in danger, and unable to escape on their own.

Akanshya and Ayushi climbed up again, disregarding their own safety, and managed to save them. They carried the two children down first, then the women back to safety.
