"Did Not Sleep At All": Aman Sehrawat Reveals Tough Journey to Paris Olympics 2024 Wrestling Bronze
Aman Sehrawat made history by becoming India's youngest medalist at the Olympics, claiming bronze in the 57kg freestyle wrestling event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Aman Sehrawat made history by becoming India's youngest-ever Olympic medalist, winning bronze in the 57kg freestyle wrestling event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Aman defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz in the bronze medal match, securing India's first wrestling medal of the Olympics. In an interview with NDTV, Aman expressed that while his ultimate goal was gold, this bronze medal serves as motivation for the 2028 Olympics.
"I came to the Olympics with the dream of winning a medal. Although I wanted the gold, everything happens for a reason. Next time, I'll be better prepared. This medal has given me a big boost, and now I firmly believe that I will do well in the 2028 Olympics," Aman told NDTV after his bronze medal win.
After losing in the semifinals to Japan's Rei Higuchi, Aman was overweight and needed to meet the permissible weight limit before the weigh-in. He revealed that he and his coaches worked tirelessly, with Aman even foregoing sleep to participate in multiple training sessions to shed the excess weight.
"We did a lot to lose that weight. After the bout, I practiced for two hours. Then, around 1 am, I trained at the gym. By 3 am, I was somewhat done. I didn't sleep at all. The main goal was to get the weight within the permissible limit. I didn't sleep at all before the fight," he explained.
Furthermore, Vinesh Phogat had initially qualified for the 50kg wrestling final but was disqualified from the gold medal match due to being overweight. However, following a challenge at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), a decision is expected to be reached by Sunday evening.
