Himachal Pradesh: After days of steering through some of the toughest terrains of Himachal Pradesh, at the “Rally of Chamba- 2022” (motorsports rally) organised by FMSCI under the ‘Chalo Chamba’ campaign, Odia boy Waibhav Choudhury and his co-driver and navigator Saswat Swain bagged the 2nd position in India's most dangerous rally. The triumph came with the added award of best rally driver of the state of Odisha, best amateur Navigator and best class driver.

Mountain rallies are usually held at a height of 15,000 feet and temperatures below 14 degrees Celsius. Surprisingly, drivers do not know the road in this dangerous race. The only hope is the computer in the car, the road map book and the companion navigator.

Waibhav joined the journey with pride and a mountain of enthusiasm in his mind and heart. The goal was to show his presence and show everyone the culmination of Odisha's heroism. This is the biggest event for the Himalayan Tourism Department. Waibhav joined the third category of this rally. The more dangerous the road, the harder the rules. "On the first day, we had to cross 178 km from Chamba. The road was such that the width of the vehicle was about the same as the width of the road," he added.

The next day the road was even more dangerous. The road is called "killar sach pass". This Himachal road is one of the most dangerous in the world. That is why ordinary people are not allowed on this road. As you can see, only hills are there. The road is 15,000 feet above the ground. A single wrong turn will end your life. However, he risked his life to drive the car with caution and intelligence. Driving conditions are also very difficult.  The biggest danger to crossing such a dangerous road was the weather, Temperature was -15 degrees celsius. You cannot go slow nor can you go fast. The roads were filled with ice. When we hit the brakes, the car usually skids, said Waibhav.

Waibhav is the son of Congress leader and Cuttack district Congress president Manas Choudhury.

The organizers congratulated Vaibhav on his bravery. Among the contestants from Odisha, Waibhav was awarded as the best driver. He had already practised in Bhubaneswar, Delhi and Chandigarh to take part in the competition.
