"During an encounter in Anantnag, a civilian was injured in the exchange of fire between the army and terrorists and unfortunately, the civilian has passed away."
The gunfight between terrorists and the Indian Army took place in the Ahlan area of Anantnag on Saturday, where two terrorists were cornered, officials said.
A civilian injured during a gunfight between the Indian Army and terrorists in the Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district passed away on Sunday. The encounter, which began on Saturday afternoon in the Ahlan area of Anantnag, resulted in the deaths of two army personnel and injuries to six others, including two civilians.
After the encounter, the army launched a search operation in the Kokernag woods, which entered its second day today. Two terrorists have been cornered in the forest. Additionally, an encounter between terrorists and security forces began in Kishtwar. The search operation is also ongoing in Kishtwar, as confirmed by the Jammu and Kashmir police.
In a separate incident, an exchange of fire occurred when police, along with the army and paramilitary forces, initiated a search operation in Nownatta, Naageni Peyaas, and nearby areas. After the gunfight, reinforcements were sent to the encounter site, and the search for the terrorists continues.
Despite a period of relative peace following the abrogation of Article 370, terrorist activities have resurged in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu region. Several deadly attacks in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda have been attributed to Pakistani handlers attempting to revive terrorism in the area. Since 2021, over 70 people, including 52 security personnel mostly from the Army, have lost their lives in terror-related incidents in the Jammu region.
