Andhra Guv Biswa Bhushan Harichandan Diagnosed With Covid-19, Airlifted To Hyderabad
Hyderabad: After falling ill the night before, Governor of Andhra Pradesh Biswa Bhusan Harichandan was evacuated to Hyderabad from Vijayawada on Wednesday morning.
Harichandan, 87, has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and hospitalised to the intensive care unit (ICU) of AIG Hospital in Ganchibowli, according to a Raj Bhavan bulletin. His condition is described as critical.
Following a recent trip to New Delhi, the Governor has been suffering with a cough and cold for the past few days. He complained of being unsettled and was taken from Gannavaram airport to Hyderabad in a special plane. A Raj Bhavan official in Vijayawada was quoted by HT as adding that his wife Suprava Harichandan and son Prithvi Raj Harichandan accompanied him.
On July 24, 2019, he was sworn in as the 23rd Governor of Andhra Pradesh. He is a seasoned BJP leader from Odisha.
In 1977, he was elected to the Chilika Assembly seat as a member of the BJP, and in 1990, he was elected to the seat on a Janata Dal ticket. In 1996, he rejoined the BJP and was elected to the Bhubaneswar Central seat for the third time in 1997 by-elections. He was a member of the same constituency for three years in a row.
In 2004, he was a cabinet minister in the BJD-BJP coalition administration.
