Bhubaneswar: Anshuman Rath, a former Hong Kong captain, will play for Odisha in the upcoming domestic cricket season in India.

Rath, who was born in Odisha, became eligible to play for his native state after completing a one-year cooling-off period. Under the BCCI, he is now qualified to play as a local player.

The 23-year-old batsman has represented Hong Kong in 18 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 20 T20 Internationals. Rath and his parents moved to Hong Kong when he was 14 years old.

“I had completed a year of probation, played club cricket in Nagpur, and hoped to be selected for Vidarbha. But when things didn't work out, I needed to find a fresh opportunity, and that's when Odisha presented itself,” Rath told ESPNcricinfo.

“I can speak Odia and was born in Bhubaneswar, so this was a natural next step for me,” Rath said.
