DRDO confirms successful trials of enhanced range Pinaka rockets in Balasore

Bhubaneswar: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) recently conducted tests of the Pinaka extended range rocket at the firing ranges in Pokhran, Rajasthan, and Balasore, Odisha.

Sources claim that the army tested more than 120 rockets to ensure that all technical specifications were met. Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), a company situated in Nagpur, produced weapons that complied with all regulations.

According to sources, the improved Pinakas can reach targets at a distance of over 45 kilometres as opposed to the heritage rockets' maximum range of 37 km. The Munitions India Limited (MIL) rockets also succeeded in the tests.

Army and DRDO representatives were present during the trials. These rockets could progressively be offered for export to friendly countries and are anticipated to replace shipments from Russia.

The project demonstrates the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision's viability for the private sector. This has been made feasible because to the army's support and the DRDO's ongoing direction, according to Satyanarayan Nuwal, chairman of the EEL.

It is important to note that the test firing of the Pinaka MK-1 Enhanced Rocket System (EPRS) and the Pinaka Area Denial Munition Rocket Systems (ADM), in which a total of 24 EPRD rockets were fired, was successfully completed in April.

Similarly, in 2021 at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur in Odisha's Balasore, DRDO successfully performed the experiments for the longer range variants of the Pinaka rocket from a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL).

This is the first time that rockets made by the private sector have been accepted for service since defence manufacturing was opened to the private sector.
