Fake gold brick racket busted, 4 arrested in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: Four men were nabbed for allegedly duping a businessman by selling him fake gold bricks for Rs 10 lakh in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Thursday, police said.

Police stated they are working to apprehend three additional suspects in the crime after claiming to have discovered a fake gold racket with the arrest.

The other two defendants are from Khaliguda village in Dabugaon block, while the other two are from Ichabatiguda in Nabarangpur. Three mobile phones, Rs. 4.60 lakh, knives, and other sharp weapons have all been taken from the accused individuals' possession.

Police said that more than a week ago, the four defendants called a man in Berhampur and offered to sell him gold bricks. However, they threatened him with knives and demanded Rs 10 lakh from him when he tried to examine the gold bricks.

On Wednesday, the conned guy complained to the Nabarangpur police. According to authorities, a special squad of officers carried out raids based on his allegation and apprehended the offenders.

According to JK Behera, an additional superintendent of police, the accused admitted to the crime, and police were able to seize the duplicate gold bricks and 4.6 lakh rupees from them. The phoney gold brick was about 4.3 kg in weight.

To find the other three fugitives, a manhunt has been started. He claimed that once they are taken into custody, the remaining sum will be retrieved.
