Bhubaneswar: Sanjeeb Kumar Sahoo, a former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) minister and four-time MLA, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday.

At a gathering here, Sahoo formally joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister of Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan.

On November 3, Sahoo submitted his resignation to BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

In the 2019 elections, the BJD had denied him a ticket. Sahoo was first elected to the Odisha Assembly from Birmaharajpur in the 2003 bypolls and then again in the 2004 general elections, serving as a minister in the BJD government.

After a nocturnal 'coup' attempt by Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, Naveen's confidante at the time, he was fired from the ministry in 2012.
