Galwan Martyr From Odisha, Naib Subedar Nuduram Soren, Awarded Vir Chakra

New Delhi: On Tuesday, Naib Subedar Nuduram Soren, a native of Mayurbhanj in Odisha, was awarded the Vir Chakra (posthumously) for his bravery in repelling a savage attack by Chinese Army forces in the Galwan valley in the Ladakh sector in June last year during Operation Snow Leopard.

President Ram Nath Kovind presented his wife with the award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan during the third session of the Defence Investiture Ceremony.

Soren was one of the 20 troops killed in the Galwan Valley in January of this year, and he received the Vir Chakra award.

His wife and three daughters are the only survivors of the martyr.

Another Odia jawan from Kandhamal district, Chandrakant Pradhan, was killed in a brutal encounter with Chinese troops along the India-China border.Soren joined in the Indian Army on April 27, 1996, after being born on April 2, 1977, in Badachampauda hamlet in Mayurbhanj. On March 27, 1997, he was assigned to Bihar after completing his training.

Soren was a member of the Bihar military's 16th regiment. He was also an active football and hockey player, as well as a cross country runner.
