General Bipin Rawat, wife, 11 others killed in chopper crash in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore: India prepared for the worst when it was announced that Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would address Parliament on Wednesday afternoon to provide an update on the terrible chopper crash that killed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat.

When the IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter crashed at the Nilgiris, near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu, Maj. Rawat, India's first CDS, was travelling from Sulur Airbase to Wellington with his wife Madhulika Patkar and other IAF commanders.

According to India Today, 11 individuals on board died, while three others had 85 percent burn injuries.

It was also stated that the Defence Minister had told Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that after briefing Parliament, he would fly to the accident scene.
