Bhubaneswar: An Odia airman was among the 13 people killed in the IAF Mi-17V5 chopper crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday, including India's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika.

Rana Pratap Das, a Talcher native, was recognised as the Odia airman.

Das, a Junior Warrant Officer (JWO) from Krushnachandrapur hamlet in Talcher, had served in the Indian Air Force for the past 12 years.

According to media sources, his brother-in-law Sankalp Das announced his death on Twitter. According to a report, Sankalp tweeted, "My brother-in-law Rana Pratap Das from Talcher, Odisha, lost his life in the sad helicopter crash."
