Bhubaneswar: On March 24, about 40.55 lakh people in Odisha would vote in the polls for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), according to State Election Commissioner (SEC) AP Padhi.

The election campaign for three municipal corporations, 47 municipalities, and 59 NACs will close on March 22 at 5 p.m., he stated. The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 24, and the results will be counted on March 26.

According to Padhi, 61 candidates were declared unchallenged winners after filing nomination papers for three wards in the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) and 58 wards in other municipalities/NACs.

He stated that no nominations had been filed for one ward in each of the municipalities of Pattamundai in Kendrapara, Kamakhyanagar in Dhenkanal, and Purusottampur in Ganjam. The Odisha government will designate councillors for these reserved seats, he said.

There are sixteen candidates running for Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and an equal number for Chairperson of Baripada Municipal Corporation (BMC). For the position of Chairperson of the Jeypore Municipality, there are eighteen individuals running.

Due to the fact that Mayors and Chairpersons are elected directly, each booth will have two EVMs: one for Councillor/Corporator and the other for Chairperson/Mayor.

A total of 22,000 poll workers will be on the job. 195 police platoons will provide security, including 30 for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), 20 for the CMC, and 10 for the BeMC.

In addition, 300 mobile parties will be deployed, with 109 being deployed in each of the three local corporations.
