Bhubaneswar: On May 27 and 28, fuel refilling stations in Odisha would be closed for 12 hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. to protest the Centre's decision to cut fuel prices without raising dealer commissions.

On these two days, petrol dealers across the state will have decided not to buy fuel from the oil marketing companies (OMCs), which include Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum, and Bharat Petroleum.

The state president of the petroleum dealers association wrote to the state-level coordinator of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, saying, "With reference to the cited above, I draw your kind attention to the following grievance which pains us mostly that the decision of the Union Govt. in consultation with all companies to reduce the price of petrol and diesel most welcome." Since it provides a significant benefit to the general public, it appears that the decision was made without regard for the dealers' interests, resulting in a significant loss and exceptional fear."

This logic was not followed in lowering the price of gasoline and diesel, and as a result of this blunder, the dealer community is facing unprecedented financial loss and misery, according to the letter.

"In protest of the unjust and on reasonable order, traders across the state of Odisha have unanimously decided to close their business on the 27th and 28th of May, 2022 from 6 p.m. (evening) to 6 a.m.," it continued.

The Centre has announced a reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre, respectively, to combat rising inflation.
