Pradeep Purohit to be BJP nominee for Padampur by-poll

Bhubaneswar: Former MLA Pradip Purohit has been named the BJP's candidate for the byelection to the Padmpaur Assembly constituency in Odisha's Bargarh district next month, according to the party's senior leader Kusum Tete.
On November 14, he will file his nomination papers, she added.
Purohit won the seat in 2014 but lost by 5,734 votes in 2019 to Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha, whose death caused the by-election. The saffron party is aiming for an encore in Padampur after its victory in Dhamnagar.
The ruling BJD and Congress parties have yet to name their candidates.
The by-election is planned for December 5. The date for vote counting has been set on December 8.
