Vedanta’s Jamkani coal mining operation begins in Sundargarh

Sundargarh: The deadlock that had stalled Vedanta's mining activities at Jamkani coal mines in Odisha's Sundargarh for a long time due to protests by affected villagers was eventually resolved following talks.

According to a company release, the coal mining operation began after successful talks between protesters and the Sundargarh district administration as well as Vedanta officials.

On Friday, a significant meeting was held between the company authority, district administration, and displaced villagers to discuss the problems of the aggrieved people at the agitation site of Vedanta Company's Jamkani Coal Mine.

Various issues were discussed in a constructive environment, leading to an agreement, after which the mining process began, according to the release.

Local MLA Kusum Tette, ADM Abhimanyu Behera, Sub-Collector Dasharathi Sarabo, CEO Vedanta Mines V Srikant, Vedanta's Chief (Land & Legal) Nawal Sharma, Head (External Relations) Pranay Satpathy, and Sundargarh MP's representative Batakishore Mishra were present at the meeting.

The meeting was attended by over 1500 people from the villages of Mendra, Jamkani, Girishma, and Jharpalang. Negotiations on a variety of issues, including compensation, were also successful, according to the release.
