Cuttack: The inauguration celebration of the Rs 90-crore state-of-the-art Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT) at Khannagar on the banks of the river Kathajodi, which would be unveiled by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday afternoon, will be skipped by Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim.

Moquim told reporters that he has decided not to attend the program because not a single development project in Cuttack has been completed, nor have the victims been rehabilitated. "No local contractors were approached for the megaproject; instead, construction workers from outside the state were hired." Local retailers have also been denied shop space at the new bus station. The government is launching the bus terminal while neglecting people who have offered their full cooperation to the project" he alleged.

He also said that the bus terminal is still under construction. "The administration intends to relocate all bus stops to the new terminal, but there is no provision for bus entry and exit." Work on the project's six-laning of the road has yet to commence, which will result in waterlogging," he said, doubting the necessity of the terminal's opening.

The Taladanda Canal development project and Ravenshaw University's second campus, both of which have yet to be built, face a similar fate, he warned.

The legislator was likewise taken aback by the arrangements for the CM's visit. "We have never seen anything like this, not even for the President of India and the Governor, or for former Chief Ministers Janaki Ballabh Patnaik and Biju Patnaik." Barricades have been erected to increase security throughout the city. "I suspect this is being done to keep the CM out of the public eye," he speculated.

Moquim also stated that if the CM had reviewed the project himself, he would not have attended the inauguration.
