Bhubaneswar: Gita Mehta, the daughter of famous statesman Biju Patnaik, will be cremated on Monday at the Lodhi Road crematorium in New Delhi.

Mehta, the elder sister of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, died on Saturday evening at the age of 80 at her home in New Delhi after a long illness. On Sunday, Naveen traveled for Delhi. "I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to those who have expressed their condolences," he told reporters after arriving in Delhi.

The family was waiting for her oldest son Aditya Singh Mehta to come in India from the United States for the final rites, which were expected to be performed in a low-key way in the presence of Naveen's close acquittances. 

Only close family members were permitted to pay their respects to Mehta at her Delhi home on Sunday.
