Baripada: In the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, a woman allegedly made an attempt at self-immolation after her husband forbade her from going to see her parents.

According to sources, the event happened on Sunday in the district's Tentulibadi village, which is inside the Kaptipada police jurisdiction. On the morning of Biswakarma Puja, Chandramani Singh, the villager Muna Singh's wife, informed her husband that she want to visit her parents.

Muna, however, refused to go because he didn't have enough money for it and left the house to work instead. Chandramani doused herself in kerosene and lit herself on fire while she was alone herself in the house.

Her neighbour hurried to the house as she shouted due to the fire and smoke coming from the house. He called the other villagers after locating the door. To put out the flames, they forced open the door.

To the community health centre (CHC) in Udala, they hurried Chandramani. According to hospital reports, she had burn injuries that were 70% burnt during the incident.

Police have opened an inquiry after registering a case after being notified.
