Jharsuguda: A 10-year-old boy has gone missing in the poll-bound Jharsuguda district, just days after the kidnapping and murder of 15-year-old Samarth Agrawal for ransom.

According to sources, the boy, identified as Prince Soni of the district's Buromaal area, has been missing since April 7. Despite the fact that a complaint was filed with Jharsuguda police on April 9, he has yet to be found.

The incident occurred while the boy and his sibling were alone at home while his mother was hospitalized due to illness. His father was also in the hospital. On that fateful day, he was last seen standing in front of the house.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and efforts are underway to locate the missing boy.

Samarth Agrawal, 15, the son of a businessman from Sarbahal in Jharsuguda, was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh on March 27 and his half-burnt body was discovered on March 28 in Bheden, Bargarh district.

Union Education Dharmendra Pradhan slammed the BJD government in the state for the killing of the 15-year-old boy and Health Minister Naba Kishore Das in Jharsuguda on March 30, tweeting: "Murder of young Samarth exactly two months after the broad daylight killing of Minister Naba Das exposes Odisha govt's tall claims on rule of law."

"On a regular basis, gruesome incidents like these, particularly in Jharsuguda, have shocked everyone and weakened the trust of the people of Odisha," he added.

People will be afraid to vote in the by-election, according to senior Congress leader and MLA Santosh Singh Saluja.

In response to Dharmendra's comments, senior BJD leader and MP Sasmit Patra tweeted, "Please don't try to mislead and play politics on sensitive criminal matters." According to the NCRB Report (2021), BJP-ruled states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, and Haryana have more rape cases than Odisha."
