Regrettably, Indian tech professionals may face challenging times ahead as the new UK government plans to tighten regulations pertaining to overseas recruitment.

The new UK government is aiming to reduce the hiring of overseas workers by technology and engineering companies. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has requested the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to assess these sectors' reliance on skilled worker visas.

In a letter to the MAC Chair on Wednesday, Cooper mentioned the necessity to understand why certain key occupations heavily rely on international recruitment. She specifically highlighted information technology, telecommunications professionals, and engineering professionals as sectors that have been among the top users of work visas.

Cooper expressed the government's gratitude for the contributions of international workers, but emphasized the need for managing and controlling the system. She also stated that the current high levels of international recruitment are unsustainable and reflect ongoing skills shortages in the UK.
