Shashi Bhusan Behera, a BJD MLA and former Odisha Minister, and his family have been accused of inflicting domestic violence and dowry torture on his daughter-in-law.
Bhubaneswar: Shashi Bhusan Behera, a BJD MLA and former Odisha Minister, and his family have been accused of inflicting domestic violence and dowry torture on his daughter-in-law.
According to sources, the Kendrapada MLA's daughter-in-law Ronali Behera (31) has filed a complaint against him and his family members at Banki police station.
Ronali, who married Behera's son Satyaprakash on March 3, 2021, accused her husband of having an extramarital affair with another married woman.
In her complaint, she claims that her husband and her in-law parents, sister-in-law, and others abused her mentally and physically. She claimed that she and her family were constantly harassed in order to meet their financial demands.
Ronali also claimed that her in-laws tortured her and forced her to bring Rs 40 lakh from her parents for dowry.
Ronali claimed that her father had met all of the demands, but Satyaprakash's parents demanded that she hand over all of her jewelry just 10 days after she arrived at her in-law's house. She claimed that her in-laws also demanded more money and asked her to remove all of her old jewelry from her home.
Ronali claimed she was abused and humiliated when she expressed her father's inability to pay due to a financial crisis.
Shashi Bhusan Behera reportedly said that some differences must have arisen between his son and Ronali, dismissing his daughter-in-law's allegations as baseless and false.
He stated that Ronali went to her paternal home with her father after staying in our home for one month and eleven days, and that the allegations of dowry demand are unfounded.
