Bhubaneswar: A day after the Odisha cabinet approved the "Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha" scheme, the Congress launched a scathing attack on the BJD government, accusing it of introducing the scheme to dupe the people ahead of next year's elections.

Sarat Pattanayak, president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), said at a press conference in Bhubaneswar that the state government's "Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha" campaign is another ruse to get votes.

The PCC chief slammed the Naveen Patnaik government over the issue, demanding to know the status of several schemes launched by the BJD government in the past.

While announcing the scheme with a sanctioned budget of Rs 4,000 crore to build rural infrastructure, the BJD government must tell people how long the scheme will last, he said, because many similar proposals in the past were short-lived and are now forgotten.

"The BJD government announces such schemes ahead of elections in order to dupe the public." "However, after elections, the government forgets about these schemes," Pattanayak claimed.

The Congress leader went on to say that by introducing the scheme to improve rural infrastructure, the BJD government admits that it had previously taken no steps to develop villages in the state.

While people are without drinking water, thousands of schools are operating from dilapidated structures, he said, adding that vegetable prices have skyrocketed due to the government's failure to build cold storage facilities.

People, however, are unaware of the BJD's game plan, and they will teach it a lesson in the next elections, according to the PCC chief.

It should be noted that the state Cabinet approved the proposal to change "Ama Gaon Ama Bikash" to "Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha" on Monday, with a budget of Rs 4,000 crore.

The new scheme would go into effect in fiscal year 2023-24, with the goal of improving rural infrastructure and accelerating growth, as well as promoting, preserving, and protecting the state's Jagannath culture and tradition.

The scheme aims to fill gaps in existing small and critical projects and infrastructure development. It intends to empower women and youth, close educational gaps, and provide digital and sports facilities.

The scheme has a budget provision of Rs 4000 crore in the State Budget. The scheme will provide Rs 50 lakh to all Gram Panchayats in each block. The project's budget ranges between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
