Bhubaneswar: Activists from the Congress Student Wing gheraoed the residence of legislator Sushant Singh in Bhubaneswar on Monday, demanding that the ruling BJD leader be included in the investigation into the murder of Naba Kishore Das.
Activists hurled tomatoes at the official residence of the ruling BJD MLA and former Minister during the protest, which was organized by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI).
As the protesters attempted to storm the ex-official Minister's residence, police stopped them, resulting in a brief scuffle between the two sides.
The demonstrators yelled at the legislator, "Sushant Singh is suspected to have some links with the murder case because he had enmity with the then health minister Naba Das."
They demanded that Sushant Singh be included in the ongoing investigation into the mysterious murder. "He should be investigated, and calls recorded on his cell phone should be examined," yelled youth leader Yasir Nawaz.
Later, demonstrators marched to the state Assembly building to protest the situation. When the cops tried to stop the demonstrators from proceeding, a fight broke out between them and the protesters near the Assembly building.
