Berhampur: On Thursday, a police officer was arrested in the Mohana area of Odisha's Ganjam district on suspicion of raping the headmistress of a residential school in Gajapati district.
Police had both the accused and the victim examined by doctors.
Bhubananada Nayak, a policeman (3rd Battalion, SSBN) from Kaliapatua in the Mohana police limits, was identified as the accused.
According to the police complaint, Bhubananda had a physical relationship with a 37-year-old headmistress who lives in the Berhampur area with her two children after divorcing her husband.
Since 2010, the police officer has been accused of having a relationship with the teacher on the promise of marriage.
Furthermore, the cop had her pregnancy terminated three times and had taken Rs 12 lakh from her at various times.
However, the victim later discovered that the accused had married a woman. The victim filed a complaint against the cop in protest of the marriage.
