Koraput: The Forum for Integrated Development and Research (FIDR) India, Gurugram, and the Central University of Odisha (CUO) have signed an MoU to construct a Digital Tribal Literacy Centre for the state's tribal youths.

On Wednesday, Dr. Asit Kumar Das, Registrar of the University, and Debi Patnaik, Director of the FIDR, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the presence of Prof. SK Palita, Vice-Chancellor in Charge, CUO, and Charudatta Panigrahi, Director, FIDR.

Prof Palita, speaking on the occasion, stated that with the signing of the three-year MoU, the Central University will be able to teach digital literacy to students from the region's tribal and marginalised populations with the help of FIDR. "The development of the digital centre will provide opportunities for boys and girls from marginalised communities to learn digital skills and become self-employed," the VC said.

"The development of the centre would provide the region with long-needed soft skill education and encourage young economic empowerment," stated Charudatta Panigrahi, Director of FIDR. The university's registrar also spoke. Faculty members as well as CUO and FIDR officials were in attendance.

During the university's 13th Foundation Day celebrations, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the establishment of the digital centre.
