Phulbani: On Wednesday, vigilance sleuths arrested the top clerk of the district's ITDA office on a bribe charge.
The Vigilance Department set up a trap after receiving a complaint that Basanta Kumar Pani, head clerk, office of PA, ITDA, Baliguda in Kandhamal district, was demanding a bribe of Rs 6,000 for the release of the security deposit amount.
The complainant went to Pani's office room in Baliguda to pay the money as planned. While taking the bribe money from the complainant, the Vigilance sleuths apprehended him.
In the presence of witnesses, the bribe money was recovered from Pani's hands and seized. Simultaneous searches have been conducted at Pani's home and office in Baliguda as a result of the trap. He has been detained and will be taken to court.
