Kendrapada: A 32-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly chopping off his friend's genitals after a drunken brawl two days ago at Pentha beach in Odisha's Kendrapara district.
According to sources, the accused, Akshya Rout of Bankeswar village, was apprehended by a police team in the district's Aul area after a manhunt was launched to apprehend him for the incident that occurred on Sunday.
The incident took place when Bhagabat Das (30) of Damarpur Balipatana and Akshya had gone to the beach in Rajnagar area and a fight broke out between them. As the situation deteriorated, Akshya allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and allegedly chopped off Das's genitals before fleeing the scene.
Das was rescued by locals and taken to Rajnagar's Community Health Centre (CHC). As his condition worsened, he was transferred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The accused was apprehended based on information gleaned from the interrogation of several people, including an auto-rickshaw driver hired by the two for the trip to the beach.
A case has been registered at Rajnagar police station under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder), and further investigation is underway.
