A special POCSO court in Odisha's Sundargarh district sentenced a man to ten years in prison for raping a minor girl seven years ago.

Sundergarh: A special POCSO court in Odisha's Sundargarh district sentenced a man to ten years in prison for raping a minor girl seven years ago.
Mahendra Kumar Sutradhar, Additional District and POCSO court judge, imposed a Rs 12,000 fine on convict Bhandari Soreng of Kutra area while passing sentence.
The court also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay the rape survivor Rs 5 lakh in compensation.
Bhandari and his younger brother, a juvenile, were accused of raping the 6-year-old girl at her home while she was alone in March 2016.
The issue came to light when the girl became ill unexpectedly, prompting the family to file a complaint at the Kutra Police Station on March 22, 2016.
According to the complaint, Kutra police arrested Bhandari and took him to court. His younger brother was adjudicated in juvenile court.
The court reached its decision based on the testimony of 19 witnesses and other evidence.
