Baripada: Two inebriated men were allegedly caught feasting on half-burnt human flesh at a cremation ground near a village in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district in a shocking incident.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Tuesday near Bandhasahi village under the jurisdiction of Badasahi police station, has shocked residents.
Sundar Mohan Singh (58) and Narendra Singh (25), both of Dantuni village, have been detained by police for questioning in this matter.
According to sources, the cremation of a 25-year-old woman who died as a result of illness was in progress at the crematorium on Tuesday when the duo pulled out a portion of the half-burnt body and began eating it.
Infuriated by the incident, the deceased's family and relatives apprehended the two, thrashed them, and handed them over to police. Shocked by the incident, the villagers demanded harsh punishment for the two for eating human flesh and violating local customs.
According to police, the two, who committed the act while inebriated, have been detained for questioning. One of the defendants is said to be a sorcerer. An investigation is underway, according to a police official.
