Kamakhyanagar: On Wednesday, a Class VI student suffered critical injuries after a female teacher allegedly punched him in the chest in Kamakhyanagar, Dhenkanal district, Odisha.
Ganapati Mahanta, a student at Kankadahad Upper Primary School, has been identified.
According to sources, the accused teacher punched Ganapati on the chest during the school prayer, causing him to collapse and complain of excruciating pain.
"I received a call barely fifteen minutes after dropping him off at school, and authorities asked me to take him home, saying he was ill." When I arrived, I discovered my son crying and in a very traumatized state. "I was told that one of the teachers who was checking the students' nails during the morning assembly had hit him hard in the chest," Ganapati's mother told the media.
She then rushed him to Kankadahad's health facility, where doctors referred him to Kamakhyanagar hospital for treatment as his condition worsened. It is also claimed that the school administration refused to assist the mother in transporting the child to the hospital.
Sagar Tudu, the block education officer (BEO), stated that they will visit the school and investigate the incident. He also promised appropriate punishment for those found guilty.
Notably, in 2004, Odisha banned corporal punishment in schools.
