A female officer from the OAS (Odisha Administrative Service) was apprehended with Rs 5 lakh in allegedly illicitly obtained funds in Kalahandi.
The Odisha Vigilance apprehended the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Golamunda in Kalahandi with a significant sum of Rs 5 lakh in allegedly acquired funds. Acting on credible intelligence pertaining to the accumulation of substantial bribe amounts by BDO Golamunda, Akhyamita Kartik, OAS, and her intended travel to her native place in Koraput, a team of Odisha Vigilance intercepted her during the late evening on Friday.
The Vigilance team intercepted BDO Kartik in the vicinity of Jaring, located between Bhawanipatna and Junagarh, and seized an approximate sum of Rs 5 lakh cash from her possession. Currently, she is undergoing interrogation to ascertain the source of the funds, and searches have been initiated at her locations in Koraput and Kalahandi.
Significantly, the aforementioned OAS officer had previously been suspended for mishandling COVID funds while stationed at Kosagumuda. Furthermore, while serving as Gunupur Tehsildar, the Rayagada district administration had filed a police complaint against Kartik for the misappropriation of Red Cross funds.
