Mayurbhanj: On Friday night, two separate wall collapse accidents in Odisha resulted in the deaths of three people, including two young girls, and critical injuries to another. It's unclear if the cave-ins were caused by the torrential rain that lashed sections of the state on Friday night.

In the first instance, a wall of their home collapsed in Tikarpada village, Mahadeijoda panchayat, Sadar block of Keonjhar, killing a woman and critically injuring her husband. Dutika Behera, the woman, and Kanhu Charan Behera, her husband, were both named.

The couple's brick-walled hut suddenly collapsed as they were sound asleep inside. Dutika passed away instantly. Kanhu was saved by the villagers, who then took him to the hospital.

Two little girls, Sweety Giri, 5, and Niharika Giri, 12, were slain in a similar occurrence that happened in the Mayurbhanj district's Lohakani Bholabeda hamlet, which is within the jurisdiction of the Bishoi police.

On Friday night, their father Anil Kumar Giri and several family members were hurt when a wall of their home collapsed, crushing both of the girls to death. Following notification, firefighters went to the scene and saved the injured family members.
