IMD Issued Yellow Warning For Heavy Rainfall
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued yellow warnings for heavy rainfall in Odisha on Sunday, with a low-pressure region expected to emerge over the Bay of Bengal within 24 hours.
In a mid-day report, the IMD stated that the cyclonic circulation over the north and adjacent east-central Bay of Bengal, with a tilt towards the south-west, is on track to produce a low-pressure over the north and adjacent central Bay of Bengal within 24 hours.
“From Sunday afternoon, heavy rain will fall in most sections of the southern regions due to its impact. Heavy rainfall is expected in the coastal and interior districts during the next 24 hours as the low pressure moves north-west,” the advisory said, adding that the rain will last for three days till September 7.
On September 6 and 7, fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea of the north and abutting the west-central Bay of Bengal off the coast of Odisha because surface winds of 40-50 kmph are expected to make the sea rough to extremely rough.
IMD has issued yellow alerts for the following districts due to the heavy rain.
6th of September: Rainfall was heavy to extremely heavy in Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Puri.
Rainfall was heavy in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, and Nabarangpur at one or two locations.
7th of September: Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj have had heavy rains in one or two locations.
