Khurda: An LPG cylinder explosion in Khurda district on Thursday morning resulted in the deaths of seven people.

The mishap occurred at Rabindra Pradhan's home in Gambharimunda, near Banpur.

According to sources, the cylinder caught fire owing to gas leaks. Rabindra's family called 911, and six neighbours arrived to help put out the fire. However, the cylinder exploded, wounding six neighbours and a Rabindra family member.

Banpur Fire Services members raced to the village after receiving information and extinguished the fire.

The six injured neighbours were brought to the Gambharimund community health centre (CHC), while the family member was taken to the Banpur CHC. However, their situation deteriorated, and they were transferred to hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
