Bhubaneswar: Despite the fact that the monsoon is expected to arrive in Odisha 2-3 days earlier than usual this month, the whole state was still suffering from a heat wave and excessive humidity on Thursday.

According to the evening bulletin of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional center, 9 locations in the state recorded maximum temperatures of 43 degrees Celsius on Thursday, compared to 5 locations on Wednesday.

Sonepur remained Odisha's hottest spot, with temperatures reaching 44.8 degrees Celsius. In the previous two days, it had reached 44.4 and 44.5 degrees.

Balangir came in second with 44.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Titlagarh (44.4), Sambalpur (43.8), Bargarh (43.6), Hirakud (43.5), Bhawanipatna (43.5), Malkangiri (43.5), and Jharsuguda (43.4).

Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the twin cities, had temperatures of 37.2 and 38 degrees Celsius, respectively. Gopalpur, a seashore town, had the lowest temperature of 32.4 degrees, but the highest humidity of 88 percent. Humidity levels of 80% or more were recorded in as many as 9 locations around the state.

In the next 24 hours, the IMD has issued a yellow warning, predicting thunderstorms with lightning in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Kendrapada districts.

It is also expected that light to moderate rain or thunderstorms will occur in one or two locations in North Coastal Odisha, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts, while dry weather will dominate throughout the remainder of the state.
