Jharsuguda: The bypoll for the Brajarajnagar Assembly constituency in Odisha's Jharsuguda district began at 8 a.m. on Friday at the Jharsuguda Engineering College amid heavy security.

According to the most recent voting results, BJD's Alaka Mohanty is in the lead with 43,032 votes. She has a 33,556-vote lead over her nearest competitor. Radharani Panda, who served in the constituency from 2014 to 2019, received 9,476 votes, while Kishore Chandra Patel, a Congress contender, received 9,313 votes.

There will be a total of 20 rounds of counting. A counting helper, counting supervisor, and micro observer are assigned to each of the 14 counting tables. There are a total of 60 people on the job. After each round of counting, the results will be announced.

Candidates have been given the option of appointing agents to oversee the counting process.

The counting should be completed by 3 p.m., when the official results will be announced.

The counting is going place in the presence of CRPF, State Armed Police, and District Executive Force security personnel.

A total of 11 candidates ran in the bypoll, which was called after Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Mohanty died on December 30 last year. Alaka Mohanty, a BJD candidate, is Kishore Mohanty's wife.
