BJP observes Deogarh band over arrest of MLA Subash Panigrahi

Deogarh: On Monday, the state BJP called a 12-hour bandh in Odisha's Deogarh district in protest of party MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi's arrest. The BJP has also requested that Tileibani BDO Krushnachandra Dalapati be arrested after the MLA reportedly attacked him.

Due to the bandh, vehicle movement has been hampered, and shops and businesses have shuttered. The bandh has been lifted for emergency services and cars transporting students to exam centres.

After the BDO accused the legislator of thrashing him and filed a FIR, the MLA was arrested. The MLA has also filed a FIR, saying that the BDO acted inappropriately with him.

On Sunday, BJP workers led by three MLAs staged a rally in front of the Deogarh police station in protest of Panigrahi's arrest. MLAs Kusum Tete, Mohan Majhi, and Bhabani Bhoi, as well as party workers, chanted anti-state government slogans and demanded Dalapati's arrest.

Dharmendra Pradhan, a BJP politician and Union Education Minister, has also criticised Panigrahi's detention.

Panigrahi is in judicial custody after his bail application was denied by a Deogarh court on Sunday. The MLA complained of uneasiness on the route to Deogarh after his detention from his official quarters in Bhubaneswar, and was admitted to the community health clinic (CHC) at Chhatabar in the district's Riamal block.

After he recovered, authorities brought him and two other people to court.
