Bhubaneswar: CM Naveen Patnaik will fly to New Delhi at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday before starting on a 10-day overseas vacation. According to sources, he would leave for Rome at 4.15 p.m. on June 20.

He is slated to return on June 30 and will participate in the Rath Yatra in Puri on July 1 and the state Assembly budget presentation on July 2. VK Pandian, the 5T Secretary, will accompany him.

The CM plans to travel to Italy and Dubai. Odisha Bytes was the first to report on his upcoming encounter with Pope Francis, the Pope of Rome and Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, in Vatican City. He is also expected to attend a World Food Programme (WFP) event in Rome. He'll go to Dubai on June 26 to attend an investors' meeting hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

After a ten-year hiatus, this will be Naveen's second abroad travel in his 22 years as Chief Minister of Odisha. His only journey outside of India was in May 2012, when he toured the United Kingdom while Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra allegedly launched an aborted coup.

The BJP and the ruling BJD have exchanged barbs over the intended visit, with the former questioning his likely absence from the Assembly during the key monsoon session, when the state budget for the current fiscal year will be tabled.
