Keonjhar: As per reports, police conducted flag marches in the mining town of Joda in Odisha's Keonjhar district on Wednesday following new skirmishes.

Sixteen police platoons have been dispatched, and two more special police officers are assessing the law and order situation in the area. On Wednesday, the district's internet services would be interrupted for the second day.

In Joda, authorities halted Internet services and extended prohibitory orders issued under Section 144 of the CrPC on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Hindu and Muslim leaders called a conference for peace negotiations. It remained inconclusive, however, after only a few individuals showed up at the place. On Wednesday, there will be a meeting of the peace committee.

Tensions in the community have remained high following communal violence over Ram Navami celebrations. A group intended to hold a 'Akhada' march in the town on Monday as part of Ram Navami celebrations.

Following the denial of permission by the police, the organisation announced that the parade would be carried out with only five people. Permission was once again denied by the police.

However, some members are said to have continued with the parade, only to be halted by minority community members. Stones and bottles were tossed at each other in a brawl. Police arrived on the scene and used lathi-charge. The violence resulted in a large number of injuries. Section 144 was enacted afterwards.
